KMD Consultants was approached by the Brighton Bears basketball club in May after the web designers had expressed an interest in working with the team.
The Bears' existing site focused on information for fans and basketball followers but the team's management recognised the need to appeal to a wider range of visitors, including potential corporate partners and sponsors.
One of KMD's founders Matt Horner said: "We told them it would be our aim to build a site that would position them in a similar way to Premier League football clubs and professional US sport franchises."
New features include regular columns from Bears' head coach Nick Nurse and matchday host Paul Williams, of Southern FM, live score updates and online ticket and merchandise sales.
The new site also incorporates its predecessor's fans' forum, chat room, email news alert service and opinion polls. An extensive section on the history of the Bears was compiled by Mark Fuhrmann, who has been running the team's web site since 1996.
The history section contains results and match reports from the majority of games over the past six years and a database on every player since 1984.
Mr Horner, a devoted Bears fan, said: "I saw my first Bears game in 1982 and followed them home and away during the successful years of the late Eighties and mid-Nineties."
