Having watched the TV coverage of the Notting Hill Carnival, I am sad to see the pathetic efforts of the Gay Pride parade.
I can't believe that Brighton and Hove can't do any better than the shambling collection of buses and converted wagons and private vehicles with a few balloons attached.
There are many carnivals and Mardis Gras around the world which attract many visitors and bring investment into cities so why can't this city improve its image with something more spectacular?
There must be enough creativity but it needs a big effort by Brighton and Hove City Council to show some interest and perhaps sponsor a competition for the best float.
If the parade isn't attractive enough to watch, it might as well be cancelled but I wonder if the council cares enough to give a lead?
I recently wrote to the council about this subject and received a reply which was just a polite acknowledgement and included a phone number which I rang twice to hear a recorded message.
I wonder if there is anyone else out there who cares enough about this parade to want it to improve.
