On behalf of the Brighton and Hove Amnesty group, I would like to thank the nine volunteers who took part in the Brighton triathlon on August 31 and September 1 to raise money for Amnesty.

As a result of their hard work, we expect to have raised several hundred pounds for the organisation.

Three teams of three Amnesty members completed the team event on Saturday. One person from each team did the 1,500-metre swim, another followed on, relay style, with a 40-kilometre bike ride and the final leg was a ten-kilometre run.

Particular thanks go to Peter Hodgetts, who not only ran the individual event on Sunday but also the 1,500-metre swim on Saturday when the initial volunteer dropped out, a remarkable achievement.

Thanks also go to Brighton and Hove mayor David Watkins, who lent his support to the athletes. We were particularly pleased he expressed a genuine interest in the work of the Amnesty group and requested regular information about our activities.

Finally, I would like to thank those who helped run an information stall at the triathlon, enabling the public to find out more about our work.

If you would like to find out about Amnesty's campaigns and activities, please contact me on 01273 692236.
