Customs officers at Gatwick Airport yesterday found six and a half kilos of cocaine in a passenger's luggage.
Jacek Krzysztof Strzelecki, 31, a photographer from Poland, was charged with attempting to import the drug into the UK.
He had arrived on a flight from Bridgetown, Barbados.
He appeared at Crawley Magistrates Court this morning where he was remanded in custody to appear at Mid-Sussex Magistrates Court, Haywards Heath on Wednesday 11th September.
The cocaine has an estimated street level value of £390,000.
