Football and rock 'n' roll are an irresistible mix and I am hoping Fatboy Slim can do for Brighton what Elton John did for Watford.
Fatboy forked out £500,000 to become one of the Seagulls' leading shareholders this week with 11 per cent of the shares in Albion's holding company.
That is great news for the club and all Brighton fans because it lifts the club's profile and creates a buzz about the place.
I should know. When I was at Watford from 1981 to 1983, we won the old Second Division and were runners-up in what is now the Premiership.
Elton John was chairman at the time and, with Graham Taylor managing the side, we had an amazing time.
Elton, like Norman Cook, is a true football fan. He was Watford daft and used to go to as many matches as possible.
He would invite the lads round his house all the time and it became a big family club.
A lot of the other clubs were jealous we had Elton as our biggest fan. What club would not want his support?
Fatboy Slim is no different. He is cool and is married to a celebrity in her own right, Zoe Ball.
Look what the Gallagher brothers did for Manchester City. Oasis played gigs at Maine Road, sponsored players and made the club a trendy side to support, even when they were languishing in Division Two.
At Watford, Elton used his vast wealth to pump money into the club to help us compete with the best but most of all he was great for morale.
He used to throw wild parties before and after every season at his mansion in Windsor.
I remember one when Luther Blissett and I took a couple of his cars for a spin on his estate.
Elton had a car for every day of the week and I drove a Ferrari and Luther was in a Bentley.
Luckily we managed to return both unscathed to the garage although I did leave a few skid marks on the drive.
His pad was amazing, it had a five-a-side footy pitch and he used to invite all the players' families round as well.
He had big baskets of sweets in the garden for the kids to help themselves to, and Kiki Dee was sunbathing by the pool and the lads' eyes helped themselves to that too!
Elton was so generous and all the players used to love him. Whenever he had a concert he used to throw tickets to the lads.
When we got promotion to the top flight after winning at home to Wrexham he was on the phone for five hours from Finland where he had a gig talking to everyone and congratulating them.
Earlier he had phoned Watford hospital radio to hear full commentary of the game.
They were amazing times and really put Watford on the map.
If Fatboy Slim can have half the effect on Brighton then that would be fantastic.
He has already got his record company Skint sponsoring the shirts and he can be a influencial voice in the bid to move to Falmer.
Brighton is a vibrant up and coming city at present and with Fatboy Slim backing the Albion, I think more people will start to feel the same way about the city's football team too.
