A cyclist has undergone surgery to save the sight in one of his eyes after he had a broken glass thrust into his face.
The 32-year-old victim was cycling along St Aubyns Road, Eastbourne, when a mob approached him at 1.30am on Friday.
A man aged about 28 pushed the broken glass into his face before he walked off with the group, which included four women.
They headed towards the Redoubt Fortress on the seafront, leaving the victim bleeding heavily.
He was taken to the Eastbourne District General Hospital where he underwent surgery to save the sight in his left eye.
Detectives today launched an appeal for information on the main offender, described as white with short blond hair which was shaved at the back and sides.
He was about 5ft 10in, slim and wore a cream coloured jumper. Anyone with information should call Eastbourne police on 0845 6070999.
