I would agree with Margaret Atkinson (Letters, September 5) that Brighton and Hove, once the Queen of Watering Places, is now sadly being left to run down.
Weeds grow profusely in the gutters and round the bases of trees.
A neighbour spent an hour weeding the gutter and produced two bucketfuls of weeds. I phoned Brighton and Hove City Council and was told: "Don't worry. They will soon be dying off anyway."
New gutter grills installed in School Road, Hove, ensure that during heavy rainfall the rain cannot run away to the main drain and pavements and road are often flooded, so becoming a hazard to disabled and elderly folk.
Many streets in Brighton near the Duke of York's cinema have enormous trees, blocking residents' sunlight.
These trees have been left unattended for five years. We pay council tax to keep Brighton and Hove in good order. Where is the money going?
