The future's bright for Paddy the Jack Russell - and other injured pets - thanks to readers of The Argus.
Paddy was diagnosed with a congenital defect which left him almost blind.
His owner Mandy Scutt, of Ardingly Drive, Goring, spent £1,200 on an operation to fix his left eye but turned to The Argus when she could not afford the operation for his right eye.
In just two weeks, readers have donated £1,900.
He is now due back on the operating table on October 21, to undergo specialist surgery.
Billy Elliott, a rescue worker for animal charity Wadars, said he and Ms Scutt had been overwhelmed by the response.
He said: "Old age pensioners have donated £2 postal orders. We were all very touched they would take the trouble to do that.
"One couple from Worthing donated £1,200. I told his owner how much we'd raised and she said, 'I'm glad you can't see me because I've tears in my eyes'."
Now Wadars is hoping the extra cash can start a new project, already christened The Paddy Fund.
Council dog wardens occasionally pick up sick or injured abandoned dogs which they cannot afford to treat.
Mr Elliott said: "We would like to set aside a Paddy Fund so that there is money to pay for that treatment.
"We want readers to know the money they've given will be put to good use."
Any donations should be sent to Paddy c/o Billy Elliott, Wadars, 33 West Buildings, Worthing, BN11 3BS.
