Liberal Democrat councillors are taking The Argus's campaign for cleaner beaches to the council on Thursday.
They have tabled the aims of the campaign in order to get every member of Brighton and Hove City Council to formally adopt the proposals.
Group leader Paul Elgood said: "All councillors should get the opportunity to debate and agree with the sentiments expressed by both The Argus and many residents on the issue of glass on the city's beaches.
"The Argus campaign should be supported by residents, visitors and businesses and the council must be showing leadership in achieving this.
"We also want the council to guarantee a forthcoming review of bylaws includes a ban of glass on the beach.
"Many of the city's bylaws are outdated and astoundingly do not include this. The opportunity must be taken for a city-wide ban on glass on the beach.
"The Argus has rightly shown the way forward on this and the council must show its support in the best way it can."
The Argus launched its campaign to keep glass off the beach in the wake of the Fatboy Slim beach party, which left Brighton beach littered with shards of glass.
