Bognor Regis moved into the second round of the FA Trophy with a convincing 2-0 victory at home to Boreham Wood.

The visitors may be progressing well in the FA Cup but Rocks got at them straight from the whistle, never allowing them time to settle.

In the opening 20 minutes Richard Hudson saw a rasping drive parried by Noel Imber before Jamie Howell curled the rebound wide of the far post.

The visitors rarely threatened the Bognor goal but on the odd occasion they did, they found groundsman turned goalkeeper for the day Eddie Broadbent was not just there to make up the numbers.

The Rocks took the lead in the 33rd minute with a classic counter attack goal.

Defending his own goal Steve Leigh broke out to find David Birmingham on the wing and his cross was met by Hudson. Although Hudson's initial header was blocked by Imber the ball rebounded back off the keeper and the Bognor striker fired back into the net.

The visitors rallied at the start of the second period but they found Broadbent and his defence a tough nut to crack.

Leigh looked set to extend the Rocks lead when he was slipped through by Hudson, but he was denied by an excellent tackle from Garry Wotton.

Hudson and Michael Birmingham also went close while Victor Boyle-Renner should have equalised for Wood, but blasted his close range effort the wrong side of the post.

Victory was sealed in the 81st minute when the hard-working Leigh raced clear of the off side trap, rounded Imber and slotted home from close range.
