Oakwood are emerging as the surprise package in the race for honours in Matthew Clark County League division two.
A 3-1 win over rock bottom Oving on Saturday lifted Oaks up to fourth place in the table.
Andy Maddox's have played more games than anything else but there is no doubting they have progressed since last season when they finished in the bottom half.
Maddox said: "I am hoping with the squad we have got we can be in among the promotion shake-up.
"When we have come up against the slightly better sides, the boys have been left a little bit wanting. But we have had a large number of injuries and unavailabilities and I haven't been in the position to pick my best side yet. However, you do expect that with a young side."
Maddox was without the likes of Zak Newman, Scott Christensen and Scott Smith on Saturday but he was still surprised to fall behind after seven minutes when Brian Clarke put Oving ahead.
The second half performance was much improved and Glen Woodburn levelled on the hour mark with his first goal of the season. Having waited so long, Woodburn then added another just four minutes later and Gerald Manville wrapped up victory with a third in the closing stages.
With leaders Eastbourne Town having beaten Saltdean 3-0 on Friday and three of the other top four sides not in league action, there was a chance for East Grinstead to make up ground but they went down 1-0 at home to Worthing United.
The only goal came eight minutes from time when Andrew Walsh unleashed a low shot from 18 yards which beat goalkeeper Scott Kenward at his near post.
Grinstead created enough chances to get something out of the game but failed to take them.
In ten second-half minutes Jamie Liddell twice spurned good opportunities and an unmarked Ben Burns fired wide of an open goal from four yards out.
United gave debuts to Neil Richardson, from Lancing, and Paul Brown, from Worthing, and player-boss John Dutton is delighted with the progress the club has made since he took over a month ago.
Dutton said: "I am always on the lookout for players but it is going very well at the moment. We are getting into good habits and that is the habit of winning. If we can keep doing that, all will be well."
Grinstead manager Bob Smith said: "It's been a long time since I felt as disappointed as I did on Saturday. But if you miss the sort of chances we did then you are always going to struggle to win games."
Grinstead have strengthened their squad by signing of former Crawley Down midfielder Lee Hansen from Three Bridges.
Steyning Town's good form continued with a 2-1 defeat of Eastbourne United.
Ben Garman gave Steyning the lead with a great volley just before half time. Scott McDonald levelled for United ten minutes into the second half but Martin Rowe's great solo effort decided the contest 20 minutes from time.
Steyning boss John Bolingbroke said: "We worked hard for the result. It is a shame we dropped points against Pease Pottage and Mile Oak because we would be second now, but we are having a better season than we thought."
Westfield and Wealden shared a tremendous 3-3 draw.
Mark Drinkwater and Darrol Parris fired Westfield into a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes but Wealden replied just before half time with a Darren Gearing penalty after Steve Costick had been brought down and then levelled soon after the break through new boy Jimmy Sneddon.
Lee Sale fired Wealden ahead on 65 minutes with a great volley but Westfield responded immediately through Duncan Jones.
Wealden boss Gary Allen said: "We are playing well. Last season we would have rolled over after being 2-0 to but we clawed back and played the better football in the second half."
Seaford and Broadbridge Heath shared a 1-1 draw at The Crouch.
The visitors took the lead through a Chris Stanyard own goal but Seaford levelled early in the second half when Allan Ashdown headed home a cross from youngster Lee Plastow.
Seaford boss Duncan Kneller said: "Our injuries keep piling up and we had nine first team players not available on Saturday."
In the Division Two Cup, Rye and Iden United beat Lancing 2-1 to clinch a quarter final tie with Eastbourne United.
The winner came on 30 minutes when a Scott Price cross was turned past his own goalkeeper by a Lancing defender.
