A web site has been launched to help young people make the most of their start-up businesses.
The Shell LiveWIRE site has been designed as a one-stop shop covering every aspect of starting a business, from identifying an idea and producing a business plan to information on raising finance and exporting.
Shell LiveWIRE, aimed at people aged 16 to 30, is an international youth enterprise scheme supported by Shell UK.
Since the scheme was founded in 1982 more than 400,000 people have been in contact for free information, advice and support on ideas ranging from worm farming to computer networking.
The site was launched by the Department of Trade and Industry's (DTI)
small business minister, Nigel Griffiths.
It was developed with £125,000 from the New Opportunities Fund while the DTI has given £345,000 to support a hotline service and supply business kits.
Each enquirer receives an essential business kit, which includes a profile of their chosen idea and information on how to conduct market research and write a business plan.
They will also receive contact details for a LiveWIRE co-ordinator, who can arrange one-to-one sessions with a local business adviser.
The site's sections include The Big Trip, Unlock Your Potential and Be Your Own Boss.
The Big Trip helps people plan their career path and discover if they have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.
Unlock Your Potential uses interactive learning to help people develop business ideas and test their commitment.
Be Your Own Boss is an online library of articles containing information on five areas of business - general management, sales and marketing, finance and funding, business planning and personnel.
There is also a competition for budding entrepreneurs who can win up to £10,000 and gain valuable publicity.
There is a discussion forum, which enables people to share their experiences and ask for, or give, advice.
Mr Griffiths said: "Today's young entrepreneurs are the economic dynamos of tomorrow.
That's why the DTI has invested £1.5 million into the Shell LiveWIRE scheme.
"Shell LiveWIRE is helping talented young people to turn their business ideas into real career opportunities.
"This new site will provide immediate access to essential business information and support.
"I want to increase the number of business start-ups and achieve growth of entrepreneurial spirit in the UK and Shell LiveWIRE's new site will play a significant part in this."
