An 85-year-old woman was punched in the head and pushed to the ground by a group of teenage girls.
The pensioner from Broadfield, was set upon in Woolworth's, Queens Square, Crawley.
Her attackers fled the store, leaving the woman with head injuries and bruising to her arms and legs.
The girls are all described as white and in their early teens.
One of them is thick set with long mousy brown hair tied in a ponytail. She wore a grey sports style top.
Another is skinny, with long dark brown hair, also in a ponytail and was wearing a cream tracksuit and a cream baseball cap.
Investigating officer PC Sarah Kirkman said: "This was an unprovoked attack on a vulnerable elderly lady. I need to hear as soon as possible from anyone who recognises these descriptions."
The attack, happened at 4.30pm last Thursday, October 30. Nothing was stolen during the incident.
