Labour MP David Lepper today renewed his plea for restrictions on the sale of fireworks.
It came after weeks of fireworks being let off before before November 5 during which people have complained of noise and disturbance from bangers.
Mr Lepper, MP for Brighton Pavilion, signed a Commons motion on the subject last month.
He said a voluntary code had already been agreed among the main manufacturers of fireworks for restrictions.
But more were needed, particularly on the times at which fireworks could be sold to the public and over irresponsible sales of individual fireworks to youngsters.
The MP said: "I heard a lot of fireworks early this year, sometimes at unsocial hours."
He said animal welfare societies were particularly concerned about the danger for pets.
Trade Minister Melanie Johnson said sales of packs of fireworks with only one fuse were helping improve safety.
But she added that to impose more restrictions would need further legislation.
