Thirty years ago, Bert Murray helped Brighton and Hove Albion win a well-deserved promotion.
He was particularly popular because he was the people's player, bought with contributions from fervent fans.
Albion are currently at the foot of the first division and another appeal is being launched for funds.
If every season ticket holder hands over £40, the club will have £160,000 in the bank.
That could be enough to pay the wages of two loan signings as good as Bert Murray - but this time the aim is not to seek promotion but to avoid relegation.
Albion need all the help they can get from their loyal fans to help them stay in the first division until the new stadium is finished at Falmer.
