Once again, John Parry has hit the nail right on the head with his views on Remembrance Sunday (The Argus, November 8).
I, too, was absolutely appalled when walking around Brighton and Hove by the lack of people wearing poppies.
As a country, we have not only a cultural right to pay our respects but also a moral duty.
Would it not be possible for just one day a year for all businesses and, especially, shops to close so people could really concentrate their minds on what Remembrance Day is really about?
We owe so much to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in numerous conflicts that it would be a small price to pay.
It is also very disturbing that more children are not made to realise the importance of an event of this kind.
For those who argue that now we are a multicultural society and newcomers would somehow feel excluded, I say this: If you come to live here and cannot be bothered to integrate yourself into and respect the cultural and historical life of the UK, I suggest you reconsider your position here and find somewhere else to live.
Those who cannot be bothered to pay tribute or even wear a red paper flower to show they care should hang their bloody heads in shame.
