Pulborough clinched the most eyecatching result in the first round of the Sussex Intermediate Shield with a 24-12 home win over Hastings and Bexhill.
They were 24 points up the break. Hooker and man-of-the-match Andy Bates grabbed the first try and Richie Walters and Mark Cleghorn also scored, all in the first 15 minutes.
Phil Jennings was awarded the fourth after the Boro pack had driven over. Walters kicked two conversions.
Steve McManus and Roger Roberts replied for disappointing H&B with Neil Redman adding a conversion.
Burgess Hill were 25-3 winners at Royal Sun Alliance as skipper Neil Upton, Matt Myles, David Webb and Richard Meredith scored tries. Webb added a conversion and a penalty in a lively contest.
It was entertaining too as Crowborough beat Norfolk Arms 31-20.
Player/coach David Groombridge led the way with two tries and lock Tom Gordon crossed for the second successive week.
Matt Usher and Steve Palmer also claimed tries with Keith Brooker slotting three conversions.
Seaford had a walkover against Old Brightonians while Ditchling, Sussex Police and Midhurst were given the option of postponing their ties for a week due to their involvement in the national knockout.
