Young lifeguards from Worthing are celebrating after winning the rookies' championship during a competition at the town's Aquarena swimming pool.
Worthing Lifeguard Corps senior team, Pamela Shaw (captain), Sheila Rickson, Katy Butcher and Simon MacDonald-Mewton also struck gold, winning the Geoff Taylor Trophy for the second year running and finishing overall third in the Town Cup.
At the end of the senior competition, Worthing and Eastbourne were level on 129 points so it was decided to share the Geoff Taylor Trophy.
The rookie team, consisting of Kiera Rickson (captain), Makisha Birdine, Joe Lake and Lloyd Chapman improved on second place last year to take top place.
Events included a throwing and medley towing race, surface dive race, where team members had to swim through a hoop and resuscitation technique.
The competition was watched by scores of people in the Aquarena seating area, including Deputy Mayor Valerie Sutton.
Before the presentation of the team trophies, described as being of exceptional quality, a certificate of thanks for eight years' service was presented to Jean Paterson.
Simon MacDonald-Newton was presented with the Sussex advanced resuscitation competition trophy for the third time while special medallions were presented to Paul Olliver, Ron Duncombe and Reg Blackwell for their services to the club.
