The cost of burials and cremations in Worthing is destined to go up by 2.5 per cent from January 1.
Borough councillors agreed to the rise, which will generate an extra £39,000 a year in income.
According to a report, the extra cash would help pay for the higher costs of maintenance of more complicated and sophisticated cremation equipment.
Meanwhile, the council may spend up to £25,000 on new car park pay-and-display machines around Worthing.
Nine machines at Buckingham Park multi-storey, Grafton multi-storey, Brooklands and Alinora Crescent have been earmarked for replacement, with a further six which are reaching the end of their useful lives.
