Seventeen trees have been protected from damage by planners.
Tree preservation orders were made on a variety of species in the Worthing wards of Heene, Goring, Castle, Durrington and Marine.
It means residents and builders won't be able to prune or chop down the trees without prior permission from the borough council.
The trees protected are two western red cedars at Rutland Gate, Beccles Road; one silver birch and one flowering cherry at 25 Goring Way; one Turkey oak on land adjacent to 137 The Strand; one English oak in Whitebeam Woods, formerly Ham Farm Woods, adjacent to 8 Alder Close; one silver birch on the site of 26-28 St Botolph's Road; nine trees including a lime and a cypress at Wellington Court, Grand Avenue; and one silver birch at 64 Limbrick Lane.
