Brighton Street Stormers under-12s have lived up to their name by annihilating all opposition this season.

The Peewees are celebrating after clinching the South East Area League title and the Jubilee Cup.

The team, who train at Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre, were unbeaten during the whole season and drew only one of their 18 games.

They now go on to represent Sussex in a national tournament in Torbay, Devon, next month against other champions from all over the country.

Coach Dave Emery said: "The boys in the team have worked really hard this year and there is a great team spirit and sense of fun throughout the squad.

"I am very proud of all the boys and their achievements so far and wish them a great nationals' experience."

Emery is delighted with his five-a-side team who play all their matches in Hastings.

The players are kitted out with body armour but Emery insists they concentrate on ball skills rather than bashing opponents out of the way.

He said: "It is a fast, furious and physical sport. Shoulder charging is part of the game and all players wear elbow pads, helmets, knee pads and padded shorts.

"They are well protected because they could get checked into the concrete. I don't encourage checking but some of the players develop it naturally.

"My boys like to beat our opponents with skill rather than using physical means. It is a difficult sport to master so we concentrate on the skills in training."

Charlie Allen, Rhodri Jones and Luke Mockford were picked by rival managers for the league's Dream Team.

Skipper Allen said: "I am very excited that we've won the league once again.

"In 2000, we qualified but decided not to enter the Nationals but this time we're going to give it all we've got.

"All the hard training we've done paid off in the end and because of that we didn't lose a single match.

"Without the support of club, parents and especially Dave and Sandy Emery, we wouldn't have made it this far. The whole team would like to give everybody a massive thanks."

Jones, vice captain and top goal scorer, added: "I like banging the ball into the back of the net but that would never have happened without the team and Dave. We've all worked hard to win the league and hopefully we'll do well in the Nationals."

Squad: Dominic Martin, Oliver Donohoe, Nathan Penney, Barney Thorn, Charlie Allen, Ashley Woollard, Matthew Tuckey, Daniel Hovell, Rhodri Jones, Alex Slater, Jack Hornsey, Luke Mockford and Neil Thurston.
