A Sussex garage is to expand its car sales operation with an extended showroom.

Baldocks of Wivelsfield, in Ditchling Road, will replace its petrol pumps with a new two-storey extension, housing a larger showroom and offices.

The workshop behind the building will also be extended to provide extra MoT and valet bays.

Fuel tanks and pumps will be relocated and the car park resurfaced.

Several residents and Wivelsfield Parish Council urged Lewes District Council not to permit the extension unless space was left on the site for the unloading and loading of cars by transporters, which they said blocked the B2112.

Councillors granted planning permission but imposed several conditions, including that the space along the front of building will be used for unloading - keeping vehicles off the road.

No deliveries can be made after 9pm on Monday to Saturdays or 4pm on Sundays.
