Following a recent visit to Brighton, I was saddened and surprised to learn from two local friends that, although they wish to object to a planning application, they are unable to do so.
The reason is simple. Hearings are held in the afternoons, starting at 1pm. How on Earth can working people or, indeed, single parents with young children attend these meetings?
In Bedford, where I live, the council is far more sympathetic to members of the public by holding its planning meetings in the evening, starting at 6.30pm.
Why cannot Brighton and Hove City Council be more helpful to residents of the city? After all, they are voters and taxpayers.
-Coun John Mingay, Vice Chairman, Bedford Borough Council
