A Worthing schoolboy has been left fighting for life after a collision with a van on a busy main road.
The 14-year-old, who has not been named, was walking along the A2032 Littlehampton Road in Worthing at 3.35pm yesterday when he was involved in an accident with a Ford Transit pick-up.
The boy, who was walking home from Chatsmore Catholic High School in Goring Street, was taken to Worthing Hospital with serious head injuries.
Liz York, headteacher at Chatsmore, said: "Two members of our staff, the deputy head and the boy's head of year, spent some time with the boy's parents at the hospital last night. We are all just waiting for news.
"He is a very popular pupil among other students and his year group are very concerned for him. There are also members of staff available to meet with any students who are really concerned."
