Boss Barry Lloyd was unsurprised by Worthing's 2-0 Sussex Senior Cup win at Lewes last night, despite his side entering the second-round tie as underdogs.
Lloyd admitted many pundits would have backed the Rooks to rock the Rebels but said he expected to edge a close encounter between two of the form teams in Ryman Division 1 (South).
Two Gary Young penalties justified that belief.
The former Albion manager said: "We've been playing well and we came here with a good degree of confidence after a decent run.
"There wasn't a lot in the game, as I knew there wouldn't be, but we stuck to our guns and got the breaks I think we deserved.
"We defended very stoutly after getting ourselves in front and we're pleased to get away from here with a positive result. It's not an easy place to come and win.
"We were solid all round and I wouldn't want to pick anyone out for special praise because it really was a good team performance by the lads.
"There hasn't been a lot of rivalry between us and Lewes because the clubs generally haven't been playing against each other but maybe that's starting to change now."
Lloyd still hopes to meet the reserves of his former club later in the competition after the Seagulls' second string overcame Hastings United at Woodside Road last night.
