Richard Rodgers, Frank Gehry and Piers Gough are among the finest architects in the world, responsible for a host of breathtaking buildings.
It's a compliment to Brighton and Hove that all three, along with many other leading architects, are interested in redeveloping the King Alfred Leisure Centre site at Hove.
The old King Alfred is an undistinguished building and the 1982 pools are a mess. The areas on either side look awful.
There's controversy over the content of a new development but there should be unanimity in that whatever goes there should be a landmark building.
Brighton and Hove is desperately short of good, brave modern architecture. This site provides a chance to fill the gap.
Let's hope that whichever consortium and architects the city council finally choose can come up with a design and scheme to bear comparison with great seafront architecture of the past.
