The situation regarding the flats in Denmark Road (there is no Denmark Villas in South Portslade) is worrying enough without unhelpful and inaccurate scaremongering (Letters, November 19).
There are no plans to sell these flats. Because no one can be sure of the stability of the building or what remedial action may be needed, residents are being helped to move over the next few months to permanent alternative accommodation suitable for their needs.
This will allow a full survey to be carried out and any necessary further action to be taken.
It would be irresponsible for Brighton and Hove City Council to simply patch up current visible problems and ignore the fact that something more serious may be affecting the whole block.
Many of the residents have lived here for a period of years and have relatives nearby. The need to move will be very upsetting for the majority and I am sure it has not been recommended lightly.
The council will need to work closely with the individuals affected and their families to make the move as straightforward and comfortable as is possible in the circumstances.
-Coun Sue John, Brighton and Hove City Council
