Withdean 2000 suffered FA Vase frustration as they were held 2-2 at home by St Margaretsbury in their second round tie last night.
The hosts thought they had won it when Sam Francis struck on 90 minutes, only for a penalty to be awarded aginst Jay Pickering seconds later.
The visitors equalised from that and both sides went close in extra-time.
Withdean general manager Mark Stevens said: "They were worthy of the draw but it is so frustrating to concede a penalty like that when you think you have nicked it. No-one knew what it was for."
Roy Pook hit Withdean's first goal.
Doubles from Gary Brockwell and Yemi Odubade helped County League second division outfit Eastbourne Town stun Sidley United 4-1 in the Sussex Senior Cup last night.
A Paul McMichael strike gave Steyning hope of a similar shock at Pagham before Adie Miles hit the Lions' winner in extra time.
