Matthew Smith (1859-1959) has been praised for his distinctive use of colour.
It was influenced by the Fauve artists, especially Matisse in whose studio he studied in 1911.
This select exhibition explores Smith's sensuous use of colour in a number of key works, from his passionate Red Nude, featuring his lover Vera, and the Landscape Near Cagnes to his expressive and bold portraits.
Entry costs £4, £3 or £2.50 and the exhibition is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, Sunday and Bank Holidays, 12.30pm to 5pm. Tel 01243 774557.
