A big bash at the Boutique and an injection of new life into jazz are our picks of the week's dancefloor action.
RUSS DEWBURY'S JAZZ BOP, Event II, Brighton, November 28
Back after an absence of four years is the Brighton Jazz Bop. While the most immediate association to make with the word jazz is perhaps a slightly stale-smelling old man in a black polo-neck head-nodding to crazy beats, this proves that there is another way. The bop hooks into an altogether more groovy scene that embraces not only jazz but also music that's influenced by it. Top of the bill is The Herbaliser with their beat-heavy blend of hip-hop and heavy dance grooves. Also on the list are tender Swedes Koop, who blend sixties vocal jazz with electronica and the Nu Spirit of Sweden, and Earl Zinger, who blends jazz licks and MC style vocals. Tickets £12, 8.30pm. Tel 01273 709709.
THE BOUTIQUE, Concorde 2, Madeira Drive, Brighton, November 22
Jockey Slut magazine's nationwide tour to celebrate its tenth birthday is arriving mob-handed at the Boutique. Dexter from the Avalanches, the Audio Bullys sound system and Chris Blue join the Midfield General and Boutique residents Dannielsan and Hyste for what should be a big bash. It runs from 10pm to 3am and admission is £10 on the door (£8 NUS). Tel 01273 772770.
