Passengers travelling on South West Trains services without a ticket will be given on-the-spot fines from next year.
The news comes after we revealed SouthCentral was planning to fine fare dodgers.
South West Trains has not revealed details of its scheme but has confirmed it is in discussion with the Strategic Rail Authority. It expects to unveil the changes in the first half of next year.
The company already fines passengers using its London trains a minimum of £10 if they are found without a ticket but plans to extend the policy to cover all its services.
It will affect passengers travelling from stations throughout Sussex, including Brighton, Crawley and Worthing.
A spokesman said: "It seems only fair all passengers pay for tickets when using trains."
