A tremendous save in the first minute of added time condemned St Leonards to their eighth successive eastern division defeat at Spalding.
St Leonards had been chasing the game since the eighth minute after Spalding new boy Liam Harrold headed in Steve Waiton's cross at the near post for what turned out to be the only goal.
It was a game Spalding should have won more comfortably but Saints never made life easy for them and indeed they went close themselves on a few occasions.
Terry White's dead-ball efforts caused some concern. He had three in quick succession midway through the first half, the second bringing a fine full stretch save from goalkeeper Brett Chittock.
With the comfort of the early goal Spalding, and Harrold, were hungry for more. In the 16th minute goalkeeper Peter Newstead saved at the second attempt to foil Waiton and shortly afterwards he dived bravely at Harrold's feet.
As the interval approached Jamie Elford was denied by a flying Chittock while Baker crashed a free kick straight at Lee Sowerby.
St Leonards featured more prominently after the break, having the home defence under considerable pressure at times, but solid defending denied them.
Baker should have done better in the 70th minute when hooking a White cross over the top from close in.
Wilson's last-gasp drive from 12 yards was superb but somehow the Spalding keeper managed to turn the ball away.
Eastbourne Borough conceded a late goal to share the spoils at Corby.
Dave Adams conceded an unlucky own goal in the 2-2 draw which left coach Nick Greenwood fuming.
Greenwood said: "We had enough chances to have won three games.
"Too many players put in performances that were below par. We will work this week to put it right before our FA Trophy game against Hastings."
Borough recovered from going a goal down to equalise on 40 minutes when Daren Pearce scored with an outstanding volley from the edge of the area and Adams seemed to have secured the points when he fired home the second.
