We hear many complaints about the A&E department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Here are two examples of how it can work.
My youngest daughter, aged three, caught her finger in a gate, resulting in a very bad cut and damaged nail.
She was taken to the Royal Alexandra, where her finger was pronounced too bad to deal with.
The staff got in touch with the Royal Sussex, and nurses were waiting for us when we arrived. My daughter was seen straight away.
She was booked in, assessed, cleaned, her finger was steri-stripped and dressed, spare dressings were given to us and we were sent home in less than one hour.
A few weeks later, my middle daughter broke her finger at school. She was taken to A&E at the Royal Sussex too. The time was 4.50pm.
She went to the children's waiting area and was seen by a triage nurse five minutes later. She was then seen by Cath Dry at 4.56pm, checked over and given an analgesic at 5.05pm. We did not wait very long at X-ray, either.
We were seen straight after by Cath Dry, who dressed the finger and gave some advice for when we got home.
We were discharged at 6pm. Time spent in hospital was one hour and five minutes - marvellous. Many thanks to the children's A&E department.
