I was delighted to see the Hanover Street Festival featured (The Argus Property, November 13).
It is certainly one of the local events that helps to create a "community with real spirit" and "sought-after residential area".
However, community spirit is also kept alive by a rich diversity of local shops, businesses and people, not by the completely residential ethos that threatens to overtake the area subsequent to its soaring house prices.
I hope the photograph is not misconstrued as the present cost of housing being sanctioned by the Church, for we consider this situation to be one of the most damaging social evils of our time.
When I lived in the area, I supported a local project to fight graffiti but I must confess to being tempted to add some comments to the hoarding outside the Technical College building advertising more luxury homes when local people can no longer afford to buy in the area.
I will, of course, resist this temptation.
