What a busy councillor is Joyce Edmond-Smith.
Not only has she been campaigning outside her own Hanover ward for children's toilets in Queen's Park, which is in the most deprived ward in Brighton and Hove, she is also an independent member of the Health and Safety Commission.
This must explain her recently expressed anger at people who let off fireworks all the time and her intention to make sure fencing is put on the roofs of our blocks of flats (to avoid caretakers being blown off), gas inspections carried out (on the one-in-six council dwellings that have not had them for more than a year) and disease-inducing bird droppings removed from council properties.
With her colleague Councillor Tehmtan Framroze, recently reappointed by Brighton and Hove City Council to head the Private Sector Housing Forum, giving private landlords an equally hard time, how lucky we are to have two such energetic and committed deputies serving our community.
Who knows, the children might even get their park loos one day - perhaps when they have children of their own.
