Friends of a young man who was stabbed to death raised more than £950 at a talent show in his memory.

Some of the cash raised by students at City College Brighton and Hove, will go towards the Daniel Collard Memorial Fund.

A percentage will also go towards helping the plight of babies in poverty-stricken Uganda.

Daniel, 20, a former A-level student and bank worker of Lower Bevendean Avenue, Brighton, died in March, after suffering several knife wounds.

His killer Derry Davis, 21, of Hillside, Moulescoomb, Brighton, was cleared of murder but jailed for eight years for manslaughter this week.

Students at the college in Pelham Street, Brighton, wanted to devote the annual talent show to Daniel's memory this year.

Teachers said the event was a huge success, with students performing to a full-capacity audience, including Daniel's relatives.

His mother Ann Collard said: "I was extremely moved, proud and grateful to the college for their work, especially during the finale, as all of the contenders sang Every Breath You Take."

Lisa Moore, 21, Claire Offley, 19, and Jade Marshall, 22, emerged as winners with a performance of the Steps song Here and Now.

The girls, all students on the Adult Entry Level Programme, handed over a percentage of their £100 winnings.
