An inquiry has been launched into a police vehicle crash in which a woman was seriously injured.
The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) is supervising the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
A police van driven by an unnamed officer was answering an emergency call at 9.13pm on Tuesday when it was in collision with a Peugeot 106 at the junction of Lewes Road and Southover Street, Brighton.
The Peugeot driver, in her 40s, was cut free from the wreckage and taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
The police officer, driving a marked Sussex Police Ford Transit, suffered minor injuries.
PCA member David Petch will oversee the inquiry, which is being conducted by Detective Inspector Jeremy Coleman of the Sussex Police professional standards department.
Mr Petch said: "We hope the driver makes a full recovery from her injuries. I will ensure that the investigation is undertaken fairly and thoroughly."
The names of those involved have not been released by Sussex Police.
