Name and address supplied's assertion (Letters, December 11) that Brighton and Hove has some of the worst schools in the country is not borne out by the facts.
Ofsted knows about schools and it says we have none with serious weaknesses or in special measures. Only last week, Ofsted inspectors heaped praise on the city's provision for children with behavioural and other difficulties.
Exam results have been going up since Brighton and Hove took control of education from East Sussex in l997 and we fully expect further improvements.
I believe Brighton and Hove is full of talented and enthusiastic young people, who should be praised and supported rather than sneered at.
-Coun Pat Hawkes, Chairwoman of Children, Families and Schools Committee, Brighton and Hove City Council
