Parents in Eastbourne have lost their battle to save a swimming pool creche.
Councillors last night decided to close Flippers at the Sovereign Centre in Royal Parade.
Parents insisted the facility provided them with peace of mind while they used the pool.
They raised a 65-name petition to try to sway the minds of members of Lib Dem-run Eastbourne Borough Council.
However, a special scrutiny committee meeting at the town hall in Grove Road, heard how the creche lost about £860 a month between April and October.
The creche also struggled to attract qualified staff.
The combined problems made the venture unsustainable and it will now close on January 1.
Father Mike Phillips, 34, of Willingdon, Eastbourne, said: "We're bitterly disappointed. We had hoped there would be a reprieve."
