Haywards Heath stepped up a gear in the last half hour to end any chance of a shock home defeat in London One.
They trailed 13-12 at home to Cheshunt ten minutes into the second half but hit back to win 34-13.
Skipper Alex Meredith, who scored two tries from scrum half, said: "It was not a perfect performance but we will take the two points.
"Our set pieces were all good and I thought we could have scored a few more points in the end."
Meredith's solo break and an opportunist Henry Goodburn effort gave Heath a 12-10 lead, with Owen Ashton kicking a conversion.
Paul Bavistock's second penalty edged Cheshunt ahead but the outstanding Rick Ure struck after being driven over from a lineout to put the hosts back in front.
Ashton kicked a super conversion and added a penalty to stretch the lead to eight points before Damien Lyall's powerful finish and a close range Meredith effort wrapped it up. A final conversion took Ashton to nine points while Dave Atkin and Gordon Denslow took credit for winning a lot of Cheshunt ball at lineout and scrum respectively.
