Houses in parts of East Sussex cost more than ten times the average wage, a report reveals today.
The Wealden district came third in the South East in a report by Barclays comparing house prices to earnings.
Only Elmbridge, Surrey, and Sevenoaks in Kent showed a bigger gap between earnings and house prices.
Property prices in Wealden - the district includes Hailsham, Heathfield, Uckfield, Crowborough and Polegate - are 10.03 times the laverage local income.
The average house price is £215,393 and the average salary £21,476.
Former Hailsham town councillor and estate agent Simon Marden said prices were unlikely to change drastically in the near future.
He said: "As a company we have taken the opinion the next 12 months are likely to slow the market down and stabilise it.
"The market feels very stable at the moment. However I don't think we are going to see any great leaps in the next 12 months."
At the bottom end of the 37-strong table lies Hastings, with house prices 5.03 times the average wage. Average house prices are £107,989 and wages £21,476.
Eastbourne falls in to the lower half of the table at 6.63, with the average house price at £142,329 and average earnings in the region at £21,476.
