Liz Walker asks what sins I would have her repent (Letters, December 14).
Part of the answer is given by Jesus in his summary of the law (Torah): "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind." The second is this: "Love your neighbour as yourself."
Now, if we truly do these two things, we are sinless and have nothing to repent of. On the other hand, who can honestly say they have kept these laws completely all the time in thought, word and deed?
The Apostle John was entirely realistic when he wrote: "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
The issue of sin and forgiveness has nothing to do with politics or of one group of people, the religious, trying to keep the rest of mankind in its place.
St Paul made it very clear no one is righteous - no, not one: "We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God, or failed to live up to God's standards."
Many, as Liz says, are having problems in enjoying life to the full potential of their personality. Jesus said: "I have come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly." This I have proved to be true in my life as have millions of others.
