Former Albion goalkeeper John Keeley feels Worthing fans have good reason to look forward to the New Year.

Manager Barry Lloyd has gone some way to helping revive the club's fortunes.

Keeley spoke enthusiastically about Rebels' prospects after being drafted in for only his second appearance of the season in the goalless Division One South draw at home to Egham.

The Albion goalkeeping coach also helps out at Worthing once a week but due to his commitments with the Seagulls his appearances for Rebels are rare.

He said: "I love playing. I would always play for Barry Lloyd if he asked me, but being with Brighton full-time it's hard to get away.

"Barry had to let all the players go who were on good contracts. He's actually building a team of youngsters and they are obviously getting experience by every game that they play.

"He has got a side now that is capable of doing a bit of everything. The younger lads are becoming like young men now. They are fighting and playing for each other and in the changing room there's a good team spirit which goes a long way."

Visiting keeper Michael Bolger thwarted Gary Young and Steve Sargent while Keeley saved twice from Paul DeLucha late on after Alan Jordan nearly put through his own goal from an angled cross by Mark Knee.
