Celebrities including Fatboy Slim, Chris Eubank and Jordan have created exclusive artworks for a Sussex charity auction.

The auction in aid of The Palmeira Project is expected to raise thousands of pounds - and the artworks reveal a side to the celebrities the public rarely gets to see.

Organiser Mary Kinsella, from Brighton, said: "I am blown away with the work which has been donated and the effort which has gone into it. The celebrities have not just bashed something out but put a lot of thought into it.

"Every one is a wonderful surprise."

First up is Hove DJ Fatboy Slim. Here he reveals his mischievous streak by defacing his and Zoe Ball's wedding invitation. Depicting a group of friends, it says: "Hola! Norman and Zoe are getting married."

It shows Zoe and Norman's faces, Chris Evans as a bridesmaid and Zoe's dad Johnny Ball.

Already the invitation, resembling a magazine cover, is somewhat tongue in cheek. But then Norman, using a thick black marker pen, scribbled "I give it 6 months" with a heart underneath.

Abstract painter Mary said: "I wanted to keep the brief quite open and let people just have a bit of fun.

"Stars are so often labelled as an actor or singer and here was an opportunity for them to be themselves."

Like Norman, former boxer Chris Eubank also put a lot of himself into his artwork. The star who never shies away from the camera submitted a photo of himself. He is standing in front of the shiny truck he is so often seen driving.

On top of this is a poem in red marker pen about being a "true warrior".

Another Brighton celebrity, comic Mark Little and his wife interpreted passion in a slightly different way.

He donated a colour photograph of a duvet in the air with a few words about passion written down the side.

Mary, 45, said: "Chris Eubank's was quirky and Mark Little's was sweet."

Some people like Harry Potter illustrator Cliff Wright, who donated a fantastical animal piece, and artist Tony Hart took the challenge all in their stride.

For them, creating the artworks came easiest.

Singer Nick Cave submitted a script from his song Murder Ballads. Then he went one step further by covering the paper with doodles.

Similarly, The Levellers bass player Jeremy Cunningham's artwork is definitely overflowing with passion.

The expressionistic painting, in a multitude of colours, shows two figures and is rather naughty.

Mary said: "Chris Ellison, from The Bill, drew three pictures of boxers. They're wonderful.

"What I didn't realise was he went to Camberwell School of Art in London. He kept that quiet."

Celebrities yet to reveal their work include Brighton-born glamour model Jordan, artist Tony Hart, TV interior designer Laurence Llewellyn Bowen, Dame Vera Lynn, actress Judy Parfitt, sports personality Des Lynham and actor Joe McGann, The collection of 15 pieces will go under the hammer next month to raise money for The Palmeira Project.

The charity helps fund a Hove children's home for autistic children run in conjunction with National Children's Homes.

Mary said: "We are hoping to raise up to £8,000 at the event. The home is just lovely.

"It has a very special atmosphere. But it needs money to keep it open and helping these severely disadvantaged children. It is life-saving in many respects.

"That was why I was inspired to start the project and organise the charity auction.

"I know the celebrities were moved to help these children and also have a lot of fun at the same time. I'm overwhelmed with the response."

An exhibition of Passion runs at Brighton Artists Gallery of Contemporary Art in Dyke Road, Brighton, from January 11 to 18.

The artworks will be auctioned on January 13. Tickets cost £25, including drinks and food by Moshi Moshi.
