This snub-nosed comedian from Scotland arrived in the US to become a vaudeville star.
He once took his son on stage when the lad was only two. Ninian Joe Yule Jnr was the name of this Hollywood supporting
actor of the Thirties and Forties and his son, another Joe Yule, became better known as Mickey Rooney.
Mickey took his dad to Hollywood to become a supporting actor in such films as Broadway Melody (1940), starring Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell, Babes On Broadway (1941) with son Mickey and The Picture Of Dorian Gray (1945).
In the Forties, Ninian Joe was given a series called Jiggs And Maggie, based on a cartoon strip. He died of a heart attack, aged 61, in 1950. The last Joe Yule is still with us - Mickey is now 84.
