Shame on The Argus for jumping on the "let's knock the NHS" bandwagon with the story of Kelly Funnell being advised to catch the train to be with her new baby because no ambulance was available.
The ambulance service does not provide taxi facilities. Could not Ms Funnell's partner and father of the child have run to a taxi or a friend or relative drive them all to the hospital?
Why, oh why, won't anyone say how grateful they are to the NHS that the child's life has been saved at considerable expense to that organisation? I wonder how much the parents have paid into the system in their 23 years through taxes and National Insurance?
When will anyone thank the NHS and the staff who work so hard in it for saving a life? Would these parents who are even talking in the compensation culture that is the scourge of the 21st Century be afforded the same treatment for free anywhere else in the world?
