What a truly inspirational gesture to publish the names of all the readers of The Argus who wrote to the letters page - well over 3,000 of them in 2002.
I wrote my first letter to the paper some 40 years ago and calculate my total to date must be about 1,000.
In many ways it would seem the letters page is the "pulse" of the paper, as the average letter-writing reader has first-hand knowledge of the news being reported and is therefore uniquely placed to make relevant comment on what makes our county tick.
I am quite sure I am not alone in feeling I have received a very special "New Year's Honour" in being mentioned in the letters page "role of honour".
