Supermarket giant Asda has been buoyed by sales figures showing it notched its busiest trading day in the run-up to Christmas.
Two stores also became the first to log sales of more than £4 million in a week as Asda overcame industry fears of a spending slowdown.
The record trading day came on Monday, December 23, although the retailer, which has 258 UK stores, has not disclosed how much money was taken.
The Asda Wal-Mart supercentres in Minworth, near Sutton Coldfield, and Havant topped the £4 million sales mark in the seven days before Christmas while another 13 outlets exceeded £3 million and 100 more beat £2 million.
