As a cabbie in Brighton and Hove, I don't want to put myself out of work but I and my fellow cabbies don't set the fares. Brighton and Hove City Council does.
Getting around the city would be a lot easier if the restricted areas designated for buses and taxis were not abused by people refusing to get out of their cars.
The highways department, which makes the rules on bus and taxi lanes, says it is not responsible but the council is.
The council says it's up to the police. The police say it's down to the council, so the matter goes unresolved.
Anyway, if you add up the cost of purchase, insurance, tax, fuel, parts and labour and parking in the city, it's cheaper to get a cab than own a car.
