A former Brighton and Hove council leader is to have a say in how hospital services are run.
City councillor Lynette Gwyn-Jones has been appointed a non-executive director of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Ms Gwyn-Jones, who is standing down as councillor at the local elections in May, will be on the board for four years.
She has held a number of public offices since she was elected as a member of the former Brighton Borough council in 1991, which culminated in her appointment as Labour's council leader.
Ms Gwyn-Jones will be given a yearly payment of £5,294.
The trust is responsible for hospitals in Brighton and Haywards Heath and serves the city, Mid Sussex and the Ouse Valley.
